What 'Research Use Only' Actually Means
The label is a regulatory classification with real consequences, not a formality or a disclaimer for show.

A classification, not a caveat
Research-use-only material is manufactured and supplied for laboratory investigation. It has not been evaluated by the FDA for safety or efficacy, it is not manufactured under the controls required for drug products, and it is not labelled with the information a therapeutic product must carry.
The classification governs how the material may be described and sold. It is why a compliant supplier cannot publish dosing guidance, outcome claims, or comparisons to approved medicines.
What it means for a buyer
Purchasing research material carries an implicit representation that it will be used in a laboratory context. It is not for human or veterinary consumption, and it is not a substitute for a prescribed product obtained through a licensed provider.
Novanta's position
