BPC-157 Stability: What the Evidence Says About Storage and Degradation

BPC-157 has a reputation for unusual stability. What is actually documented — and which storage claims still require lot-specific data.

Evidence scope: Stability and handling guidance only. Nothing here establishes biological activity, sterility, clinical safety or suitability for human use, and no universal shelf life is claimed.

Why BPC-157 is described as stable

BPC-157 derives from a fragment of a protein found in gastric juice, and published work describes the sequence as resistant to degradation in acidic conditions — unusual among peptides, which typically hydrolyze quickly at low pH. That property is one reason the compound appears so often in the animal literature.

Acid resistance in a reported experiment is not the same as a validated shelf life. Stability is always a property of a specific formulation, container, temperature and time — not of a molecule in the abstract.

Lyophilized versus solution state

Like other lyophilized peptides, BPC-157 is far more stable as a dry, sealed powder than in solution. Moisture, oxygen, light and repeated temperature cycling are the main degradation drivers for the dry material; once in solution, hydrolysis, oxidation and adsorption to container surfaces join the list.

General peptide-stability research identifies deamidation, oxidation and aggregation as the dominant solution-state pathways. Which pathway dominates for a given preparation depends on pH, diluent, concentration and temperature — so the validated window must come from the protocol, not from a generic chart.

Practical controls for the laboratory

Keep lyophilized vials sealed, dry, protected from light and at the storage temperature on their documentation. Record the diluent, lot, concentration, container and preparation date for every solution, and treat any change to those variables as a new preparation.

Where a lot-specific certificate exists, it documents identity and purity at the time of testing — it does not extend a stability window. The Research Water reference covers diluent grades, and the freeze-thaw article covers why repeated cycling shortens usable life.

Frequently asked

How long does reconstituted BPC-157 last?
There is no universal interval. Usable life depends on diluent, concentration, container, temperature and handling. A protocol-specific stability check is more reliable than any generic number.
Is BPC-157 really stable in stomach acid?
Published work describes the sequence as resistant to degradation in acidic conditions, which is consistent with its origin from a gastric protein fragment. That property does not by itself establish an oral-use shelf life for any specific preparation.
